FIREARMS BACKGROUND
- Industrial arts major, machining and designing.
- 3 years ROTC, rifle team and firearms training. -US army for 3-years, received medical training and served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, as a medic
and have seen many types of wounds caused by small
arms projectiles and high explosives. AWARDED: THE BRONZE STAR AND
THE COMBAT MEDICAL BADGE. Honorably discharged in September, 1969.
POLICE EXPERIENCE:
- Joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1970 and received
95 hours of firearms training in handgun and shotgun
shooting in addition to maintenance. Five years as a field patrol
police officer.
INSTRUCTOR EXPERIENCE:
- Police firearms instructor at the Los Angeles Police Department
for 10-years and trained over 4000 regular and reserve
police officers.
- Received training handgun and shotgun repair at the police
armory, and worked in the armory in gun repair.
- Conducted ballistic experiments on body armor and vehicles
using all caliber's and types of projectiles.
- Was a training officer while working the Tactics Unit; Officer
survival and use of force.
SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION:
- Transferred to Scientific Investigation unit in 1983 to receive
training in forensic firearms and explosives. Attended the FBI
bomb technician school.
- At the LAPD firearms lab, received in excess of 300 hours of
initial laboratory training in ballistics, including testing of evidence
firearms, type and caliber's of bullets, gun shot residue analysis and
microscopy . Since then I have completed over 2100 cases pertaining
to LAPD, Coroner and private cases related to civil and criminal
matters. Have in excess of 5,000 hours of microscopy experience.
- Assist with production of LAPD training films/shooting vehicles
and observing effects of different projectiles.
- Lecture at detective schools and train new criminalists in the field
of ballistics and firearms analysis.
EXPERT COURT TESTIMONY:
- Testified two times as a bomb, Hazardous devices expert.
- Have testified in Superior, Federal and Municipal court as an
expert firearms examiner in excess of 210 times; as well as
give expert testimony in civil depositions.

a police class in Taiwan.

U.S. Army Retired.

- Annual member of AFTE (Association of firearms and tool mark Examiners).

CONSULTANT:
- In 1986, designed and implemented the 9MM pistol program for the Los
Angeles Police Department; over 5,000 officers have completed the pistol
program and the LAPD adopted the semiautomatic pistol as its primary
duty firearm.
- Consulted for Smith and Wesson in demonstrating 9MM pistols in the Republic
of China, Taiwan, and subsequently taught transitional pistol programs to the
Taiwan National Police.
- Consultant to PMC Eldorado Bullet Company.
- Consultant to Safariland LTD, police products company / lectures to the Australian
state and National police departments, and gave pistol transitional schools to the
Queensland Police / 1996.
- Consultant to Tasco Scope and Laser sight company.
- Consultant to the Singapore Police and gave advanced officer survival and holster
class to the police instructors/ 1996.
- Currently a consultant to Armor Holdings Co. major mfr. Of police and less lethal products.

- Action shooting national champion 1987/88/94/95 (Bianchi Cup).
- California State Police Champion for 12-years.

for international competition and dealing with match pressure, and
officer survival as it pertains to high-stress related street confrontations.
AWARDS:
- Received a resolution from the Los Angeles City Council in 1981 for my
contribution to the citizens of Los Angeles for teaching firearms safety
classes during a time when many citizens were purchasing firearms for
self-protection.
- Have received 16-consecutive State of California Assembly resolutions
for my accomplishments in Police competition in the State of California.
- In 1991, received the Shooter of the Decade award by the Los Angeles
Police Revolver and Athletic Club, for my competitive accomplishments
internationally as well as in the United States from 1980 to 1990.
- In 1995 I was inducted into the LAPD Revolver and Athletics Club
HALL OF FAME.
EXPERT WITNESS AND INSTRUCTOR:
- Have worked as a defense and prosecution witness in areas of explosives,
police tactics, use of force, and civilian use of deadly force.
- Extensive background in crime scene investigations, and follow-up forensic
examinations pertaining to ballistics and firearms analysis and evidence.
Tactics and Use of Force. Have testified in Use of Force Hearings and Depositions
as defense expert in Civil Suits against City of Los Angeles.
Taught Tactics and Use of Force during 10-years as instructor at The Los Angeles Police
Department Academy.
Have testified in Retrial hearing in San Diego in the area of Use of Force and the Stress
confrontation and the subject of The Psychology of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome as
well the effects during life and death situation such as shootings.
Have conducted hundreds of officer involved shooting scenes and reconstructed the shootings
as a result of analyzing the firearms evidence.
Have conducted numerous submachine gun/ and pistol classes for military and police agencies.
BOMB EXPERTISE:
- Have worked on crime scene investigations pertaining to explosive devices
and have testified in court in the prosecutions of suspects.
